Starting The Nursery

Twiglets provides care and education for young children between the ages of 2 and 5 years old. The nursery offers a safe and stimulating environment that gives care and attention to every child within the setting. Children have the chance to join with other children and adults to live, play, work and learn together in order to take forward their learning and development by being helped to build on what they already know and can do.

The nursery is open 5 days a week  Term Time Only. Twiglets opens at 8 in the morning and closes at 4 in the evening.

On starting at Twiglets Nursery parents are given the nursery prospectus, which outlines the setting’s aims and values, the early years’ curriculum and what to expect. Parents are introduced to their “key person” who will facilitate their child’s learning within the nursery. Parents are also given a copy of the welcome letter. This explains how to access the nursery, what the nursery offers and also how to pay additional fees (if these apply to you). Parents also receive a copy of the nursery’s topic plan for the half term. This gives details about the activities children will be taking part in, and what aspects of the early years’ curriculum the children will be learning and any important nursery dates.

Settling In
Twiglets wants every child to feel happy and safe, whilst they are in the nursery. To make sure that this is the case, the staff will work with you to decide on how to help your child to settle into the setting. Twiglets has a settling in policy that helps parents to see how the process works and a 10 4 Registration Form will be completed with the key person or manager.

Children who have no prior experience with day care may find it difficult to separate from parents. The nursery understands that it is important for children to feel safe and happy in their new environment and therefore will advise parents to stay with their children in the setting until the child is comfortable with their surroundings. It is necessary that parents say ‘goodbye’ to their child and that the child understands the parent will return for them.

We hope that you and your child enjoy being members of our setting and that you both find taking part in our activities interesting and stimulating. The staff are always ready and willing to talk with you about your ideas, views or questions you might have.

Uniform
It is important that children gain the skills that help them to be independent and look after themselves. These include taking themselves to the toilet and taking off, and putting on, outdoor clothes. Clothing that is easy for them to manage will help them to do this. Twiglets suggests that parents consider this when getting their child ready for nursery by putting children in clothes that are not difficult to manage, such as tricky buttons. Twiglets offers a uniform for parents if they prefer, though it is optional.

The Twiglets uniform is green and yellow and consists of a green pullover sweatshirt with the nursery logo on. For boys there are green cotton jogging bottoms and shorts. For girls a green cotton cardigan. There is also a yellow, cotton polo shirt for all children. A reading bag is also offered in yellow for your child’s daily diary, reading book and any newsletters. All of these items are available for purchase from the nursery.

Twiglets encourages a learning environment that allows children to explore the world around them, both inside and outside the setting. The nursery provides protective clothing for the children when they play with messy activities.

Parents are encouraged to provide outdoor clothing for their children such as a coat, hat, scarf and gloves so that children are able to spend time outside even in chilly weather. In warmer weather, a hat, sun cream, and or sunglasses may be necessary.

Daily Diary
Twiglets encourages parental involvement within the learning experiences of children in the nursery. To assist with this, Twiglets gives every child a comment book that is kept in the child’s reading bag. This diary gives parents information about what their child has taken part in during the day, what activities they enjoyed and the toys they played with. Parents are encouraged to read the comment book everyday and talk with their child about their day. This process allows children to recall their learning experiences and further their understanding. It is an enjoyable experience for both parent and child. Also, it is helpful to inform the Practitioners if your child has not slept or eaten well, and so could affect their mood or ability that day.
